Fund Scholarships and Support Jerry Tarkanian's Legacy
News | December 10, 2013
Unveiled a month ago, the Jerry Tarkanian statue is quickly becoming a popular landmark near the Thomas & Mack Center.
We are still raising funds toward a scholarship in Coach Tark's name for deserving students to attend UNLV (athletic participation is not a requirement of the scholarship). There is a little bit more time to add your name to the donor panel immediately behind the statue.
Donate $1,000 or more to the project before Wednesday, Dec. 18 and your name will be immortalized on the wall. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated.
About Coach Tarkanian
Jerry Tarkanian arrived at UNLV in 1973. During the next two decades, he developed talented basketball teams, excited fans, awakened a spirit of pride within local residents, and put the Runnin' Rebels on the national map. Tark's Runnin' Rebels became the "Best Show in Town" successfully competing against bigger-than-life celebrities and entertainment to become a great source of pride for a quickly growing community.
In September, Coach Tark was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame for his legendary career. He is 10th on the NCAA all-time winningest coaches list which includes currently active as well as retired coaches. In his 19-year career at UNLV, he never had a losing a season and took the team to the Final Four on multiple occasions as well as winning the 1990 NCAA National Championship with a 30-point win margin, a record which still stands today.
