Matisyahu has come a long way since his breakout album, Live at Stubb's. Since then he has pushed himself dynamically and creatively, breaking with expectation and remaking his musical image. And his latest album, Akeda (Uh—kay—duh), is no different in this regard. Akeda is depth and naturalness; it is by far Matisyahu's most personal album, and the one over which he has had the most creative control. Quoting Matisyahu, "Akeda is the kind of album an artist makes when there is no other creative choice but to turn oneself inside out."
Though he achieved early success as "The Hasidic reggae superstar," Matisyahu, the man and the musician, began to chafe under the constraints of that label and the projections that went with it. The music was evolving and so was his spiritual identity. Reggae was just one influence in the sound he was seeking and the mystical teachings of Hasidism had soaked in to a degree that he felt the external trappings were no longer necessary.

Place in the Sun, the eighth album by Grammy winning band, Ozomatli, takes the band's street-party consciousness to new heights of eclecticism. Featuring collaborations with the legendary Eurythmics guitarist, Dave Stewart, Place in the Sun is just the latest proof of the band's relentless vitality. Shifting gears from electro-cumbia to garage rock, hip-hop, and Pérez Prado mambo, Ozomatli infuses a DJ party mix with dynamic live band chops and attitude.
